COURSE DESCRIPTION/RATIONALE:

Theoretical and practical in its approach, this massage course aims to give students a deep understanding of ALL systems of the body systems with physiology and pathology, while learning a full body Holistic Massage, as well as business manager and health, safety and hygiene. 

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

At the end of the course students must have an understanding of ‘listening’ to the human body through practice on different bodies, being gentle with their clients, being professional, understanding confidentiality, how to create a successful massage business, and the ethics of massage therapy.

CONTENT:

Students will be given content that encourages proper working conditions for the therapist and client, etiquette between therapist and client, the do’s and don’ts of the massage room, how to ensure safety in the massage room for both therapist and client, therapist hygiene, massage room settings, practical massage demonstrations and practice, and understanding of how the body works through the 12 body systems.

DELIVERY APPROACHES AND METHODS:

The methods used in this course include: Video presentations, ZOOM meeting sessions for certain classes, downloadable Course Book and Student Handbook, games, discussions and in-person meetings for practical instruction.

The ONLINE COMPONENT is done through self-study (you study when you have time) and can be started ANYTIME! Completion expected in 3 months. 

The IN-PERSON COMPONENT is done at the Woodbrook Studio (location to be given) on Tuesdays or Thursdays from 5 to 7:30 p.m.

Some of the ONLINE COMPONENT needs to be completed before the IN-PERSON practical is started. (Possible exceptions)

ASSESSMENT:

Final Exam (Theory: 50% and Practical: 50%) = 100% The student must pass the online component. 

RESOURCES AND READINGS:

No required text.

Two to four towels.

One hand towel.

Antibacterial wet wipes.

Massage oil – Grapeseed oil preferably.
